Sports at Ratton School

We at Ratton School intend to get pupils interested in a fit and healthy lifestyle, by giving them a broad range of physical concepts and purposes. We aim to develop skill which can be used after leaving school, fostering a lifelong interest in physical activity.

The school has a wide range of facilities which enable the staff to get as much out of our pupils as we can. The attitude among the department is dynamic and hard working and the offer of extracurricular opportunities is one of the best around. We are committed to maximizing pupil participation and achievement. Pupils are encouraged to participate in inter-house and inter-school competitions throughout the year. We expect the same level of commitment from the pupils as our staff.

Extra Curricular Offer

The department offer a huge range of different opportunities outside of lesson time, both at break times and after school. The department are proud of what is offered to our young people who can take full advantage of a wide range of sports which changes each term.

Our clubs feed into school teams, where we compete locally, regionally and nationally in leagues and competitions. This is focused on participation, but we also have had much success in recent years in a wide range of sports.

We compete against other schools in the following sports:

  • Football
  • Basketball
  • Table Tennis
  • Tennis
  • Trampolining
  • Rugby
  • Badminton
  • Netball
  • Gymnastics
  • Alternative Activities
  • Cricket
  • Rounders
  • Stoolball
  • Athletics

Primary Sport Leadership

There are opportunities for our students to represent the school in a leadership capacity. Pupils are trained to develop their skills in leadership and deliver competitions and festivals to our local partnership schools. This ensures that our pupils can understand that sport is more than participation and ensures that there are opportunities for all and can develop pupils confidence in a different capacity.

Inter-House Sport Competitions

Pupils represent their school house in competitions throughout the school year. This is in both individual and team sports and creates a competitive and enjoyable experience in a sporting context. All pupils in Year 7-9 are able to demonstrate our school virtues in a range of activities throughout the school year, which is capped off with our whole school event of Sports Day at the end of the summer term.
