Child Development is a Key Stage 4 only subject.

Child Development is a fascinating and practical course that explores how children grow, learn, and thrive from birth to five years old. It’s ideal for students who are interested in careers in education, healthcare, social work, or childcare — or simply want to understand more about the early stages of human development.

Through engaging lessons and hands-on activities, students will learn about:

  • Physical, intellectual, and emotional development in early childhood
  • Nutrition, health, and safety for young children
  • The roles of families and professionals in supporting child development
  • Practical childcare skills, including planning and evaluating activities for young children

The course combines theory with real-world application, helping students develop critical thinking, empathy, and communication skills. Assessment includes written exams and a controlled assessment where students plan and carry out a child-focused task.

Whether you’re passionate about working with children or curious about how we grow and learn, Child Development offers valuable insights and skills that last a lifetime.
