Mobile Phones at Ratton School

From September 2026, students will be expected to lock their mobile phones away in a Yondr pouch for the duration of the school day.

You can find more information here about what this looks like.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I want to reach my child during the school day?

We want our pupils to be engaged in their learning. If you need to contact your child during the school day, contact the main office on 01323 731340 in the first instance.

Will my child’s phone be safe?

Pupils are in possession of their phone – in their Yondr pouch – for the entire school day. We will advise pupils to store the pouch in their school bags where it is completely safe. The pupils will need to ensure they store it safely in their bag. The school will not be liable for any damage caused.

What if there is a school emergency?

In case of a school emergency, we direct our pupils to safety first, following our school emergency preparedness protocol.

What if the Yondr pouch gets damaged or a pupil is caught on their phone?

If a pupil deliberately damages their pouch or is caught on their phone, school sanctions will be set and parents/carers will have to pay to replace the damaged pouch.
Damaged or lost pouches will be billed to parents/carers at a cost of £25.
If a pupil is found to have an electronic device on their person, it will be confiscated by the school. Parents/carers will have to come to the school to collect said device and a conversation will be had to ensure the child makes use of their Yondr pouch moving forward.
Sanctions will be set for any pupils who fail to follow the rules regarding the use of their Yondr pouch.
Note: Damage consists of any signs that the physical integrity of the pouch has been compromised, whether intentional or unintentional, as determined by the school or Yondr staff.

How will the use of the pouches be monitored?

Spot checks will be conducted on a regular basis to ensure the pouches are being used correctly and to check on the condition of the pouches. Staff will ask pupils to show their pouch on arrival to school. Every morning in tutor, pupils will be required to place their pouch and planner on the table for tutors to check.
